Why did my wifes prescription meds price skyrocket under Obamacare?

Use to pay 3 to 5 bucks for it, now it costs 160 bucks. Could this be why more and more Americans want the Obamacare to be repealed? More people are against now than they were when the Obamabots passed the bill.

No wonder the Prescription med companies loved Obamacare! Obama stopped generics so we would ALL have to PAY MORE! UNREAL!
I guess our govt feels if you have high cholestrerol levels that a heart attack would be a better choice for them.
The only part that doesnt go into EFFECT is Children getting insurance with pre-exsisting conditions- that starts in what they say 2014- Yah right!
Man you people are so clueless! WAKE UP!

You do know that that part of the law has not gone into effect yet?

There is no “Obamacare”. That’s your private greedy insurance company!

  4. BigD says:

    “Obama stopped generics”

Yeah, exactly HOW did he do that?

  5. Destructive Politics The Book says:

    Because the government is involved.

BTW, the cost of medicine is nothing compared to what the cost of health care will be in just a few years thanks to Pelosi/Obama/Reid universal health care.

  6. g says:

er… I dont’ think it was retroactive?

in other words, unless your wife changed medications, her prices shouldn’t have went up?

I just got a generic the other day?

and there were still rules around generics before…

  7. nooyawker says:

he wants you to demand help from the government. so he can achieve his dream of a single payer system. then she will be denied her medication.

  8. Patchouli42 says:

Same thing has happened to my parents. If you have AAA they have negotiated discount rates with companies like CVS which may help you while you find some affordable supplemental prescription drug insurance.

  9. Average College Student says:

It hasn’t been enacted yet. Republican Bozo.

  10. Smells like New Screen Names says:

Obviously, your wife used to receive subsidized medications.

As there is no explanation for why a medication would go from 3 to 160, except that you apparently lost whatever government subsidy you were receiving.

    Generic drugs are still legal.

  11. RockyMtn High says:

She didn’t choose Obama as her husband.

  12. Susan, Independent Texan says:

There is no Obamacare and Obama did not stop generic drugs. My cholesterol medicine in $ 20.00 for a 90 day supply.

A lot of people are against the reform because it is not UHC.

  13. Remember In November says:

I’ve noticed a few things like that right after Obamascare passed. A med I needed had five dollar refills and suddenly I was only allowed one refill. I can’t imagine the mess Obama Scare is going to make of everything. But that’s what happens when you have a bunch of useless lawyers making laws the rest of us have to live under.

  14. ☼Rob☼ says:

    why don’t you ask a MA resident…

they are trying the PROTOTYPE for this COMMUNIST abomination

    guess what?

    the PRICE went up

    the CARE went down

    PERIOD

this is on the LIST of things we need to FLIP once we run the Chicago GOON SQUAD out of DC

  15. meg says:

It sounds as if you are being ripped off by your heath care providers, I have not seen any change in the cost of my prescription drugs.

  16. wmayers99 says:

That, sir, is an outright lie.

  17. Bacon says:

    The real possible reasons.

    1. Your insurance changed the pay tier the medication is in.

    2. The pharmacist didn’t charge for the generic but the name brand instead.

    3. Obama doesn’t choose your medication, pharmacy or drug prices. The drug companies and insurance companies do. Not the government.

Your anger is misguided and misdirected.

You sound slightly deranged and out of touch with reality. You should look into an anti-anxiety medication yourself.

  18. Heavy_Cavalry_Sgt says:

I bought some generics yesterday from my pharmacy. They haven’t been stopped.

My insurance rates in general jumped this year as well, even though ‘Obamacare’ won’t be fully in effect until 2018. You can find lots of sources on the web that show when the various pieces go into effect — the final two measures, contrary to what you’ve apparently been told, are a 40% excise tax for high end health care insurance and a requirement for all health care plans to cover preventive medicine by 2018.

The part that does affect generics that is active now allows the FDA to grant manufacturers 12 years of exclusive production of new meds – it doesn’t effect old meds. Depending on the specific drug, this may or may not be an improvement from the developer’s point of view, but it does guarantee them 12 years where they are the sole supplier for a medication.

Welcome to government run health care. If you think that is bad, wait until you have a hospital bill. Oh, and if you have private insurance, you will have to switch to Obamacare because you won’t be able to afford your private insurance anymore. We have let the government get into to our business way to deep and it will only get worse from here.

  20. The Patriot says:

Because the corporations want to raise prices so that people try to stop the reforms taking effect.

I am always amazed how many Americans seem not to be aware about the real healthcare issues relying instead on FOX and other sources to spread lies about the healthcare system of the USA and those abroad. I mean, if healthcare in nations with universal coverage is so bad, why do they keep it?
Obama wants to make insurance more available to all and change the system so that it gives the American people value for money [1]. He also wants change so that the insurance companies find it harder to get out of paying for treatment. The system he is proposing looks similar to that which works in Taiwan where private companies are involved in providing healthcare [2].
Obama campaigned on reforming the healthcare system. He said he wanted to make insurance more available and he was elected to do this [3].
FACT – the US has higher death rates for kids both for kids aged under one and those under five than western European countries with universal health coverage [4].
FACT – American insurance companies push up prices and work to stop paying out claims on those they cover [5].
FACT – the USA spends more on healthcare PER PERSON than any other nation on the planet [6].
That means that a dead American four year old would have had a better chance of life if they were born in any western nation with universal health coverage.
If you do not like the policies that Obama was elected to bring in, he can always be voted out of office in 2012. But if you disagree with the facts, please let me know. I am always willing to learn, but please provide proof. None of those who disagree with me have been able to do that so far.
